Project Aral at Babuyan Islands
While passing at the Veritas hall in Caleruega, I saw pictures of children and upon reading its labels I learned that this was an educational outreach program of Dominican Missionaries in the Philipines.
Babuyan group of islands is 60 nautical miles from Aparri in Mainland Luzon where 45% of residents lives in poverty. The place is so remote that even the most basic schooling needs like books and school supplies is very difficult to come by. School children have to walk 1-2 hours to be able to go to school but they didn't bother because even if they walk that long to school and even if they don't have a nice school they still go because they want to learn something new. Since there is a scarcity in school supplies sometimes they share their pencils to other school children by cutting them into pieces so that everyone may have a piece to write. With this, the Dominican Missionaries in the Philippines are sustaining the education of poor school children in Calayan and Camiguin Norte of Babuyan Group of Islands by providing them tools for learning through Project Aral which is an annual educational outreach program to bring hope for a brighter future for these children.
