Adventure Trail- Sagada 2.0

Hanging Coffins

Its my second time in Sagada and for this time we didn't get any package from a travel agency. In this blog, I want to share with you the details for our adventure trail in Sagada.
First you have to register at the Sagada information center for 35 pesos each. Make sure to keep your receipt because you have to show it to your tour guide. They offers different kinds of trail the Eco-Tour Trail cost 600 pesos good for 10 persons where you will be experiencing 3 hours of loop hike and the Adventure trail cost 1,000 pesos good for 10 persons and you will be experiencing 3 hours trek. The difference between the Eco-Tour and Adventure trail is that in Eco-tour you will only be passing the entrance of Underground river while in the Adventure trail you will be going inside the Underground River.
In the information center we get the Eco-tour trail but because of scorching heat of the sun our guide kuya Cesar offers us the adventure trail for an Eco-trail price. It means that we save 400 pesos and we agreed to it.

St. Mary's Episcopal church

Our first stop is in St.Mary's Episcopal church that was built by American Missionaries during the early 1900's. After that you have to pay for an entrance fee cost 10 pesos each.  Start of the trail you will pass the cemetery.

Cemetery

Then the echo valley where you can shout out loud and the sounds will echo back to you that's why its called echo valley.

Coffin at the ground
Then you will go down to see the hanging coffins. But before that our guide show us the coffin that its in the ground or below the mountains. As for our tour guide the one that below the mountains are the poor ones and the one that hang in the mountains are the rich ones. Hanging coffin was tagged as the one of the creepiest tourist destination because of course you will visit coffins. Upon visiting the hanging coffins we noticed that there are also chairs hang in the area together with their coffins. I asked our tour guide what is the chair is all about. He said that the dead person sits on that chair while wake then after that they will put the dead into coffins before hanging in the cliff. They also have a tradition that before they hang it in the mountains at 1 pm they wrapped the dead in cloth then people pass the dead to others because it is their belief that if you got a blood stain it means that you are lucky.
Underground River
Back to our trail, before you will get into under ground river you have to pass through a muddy trail, rock climbing and river. It was indeed an Adventure trail.

Bokong Falls

At the entrance of the underground river you can see rocks that are stacked layers to one another. I asked the guide what its all about. He said that it was only made by tourist who visits the place they stack stones while having rest. At the underground river you will see stones that are sparkling just like have diamonds in it. Its not the typical underground river like in Palawan because in here you can walk through it. Just be careful because its slippery. From the underground river you have to pass through again a muddy trail, river and rice field going to Bokong Falls this time. Bokong means small so Bokong Falls means small falls. The falls was cute with a swimming pool like where you can swim.

Sagada Weaving

After our rest at Bokong falls we go back passing the bridge, rice fields and houses until we reach the main road. Part of our tour is also at the Sagada weaving where they make traditional bags. I bought a bag and a wallet as a means of helping them and at the end of our trail was back to the information center where we started.
